The construction of the multipurpose hall took several years. After the previous contractor abandoned the construction, ASTU was forced to take the case to the court. The legal procedure took a couple of years to settle.
Now that the court has settled the case, ASTU has entered into agreement with CCCC, the Chinese company, to complete the construction of the multipurpose hall. It is recalled that the multipurpose hall is named after the late artist, Hachalu Hundessa. The hall has meeting/conference halls, several syndicate sections, VIP rooms, cafeteria, offices, and well protected parking lots; among others. It is hoped that the hall will be the second largest convention center after Abba Gada Halls for Adama Conference City.
